Aung San Suu Kyi Faces Criticism Over Ethnic Cleansing of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar

  • As per reports, Nobel peace prize winner as well as Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi mentioned that describing occurrence in the Muslim-majority Rakhine region and calling it ethnic cleansing is a very strong term.

    The leader is facing international criticism as her government is failing to handle the crisis in the Muslim-majority Rakhine region. Soldiers are accused of blocking access for aid workers and raping and killing civilians.

    Aung San Suu Kyi said that she has been working towards settlement in the troubled area.

    A domestic investigation into possible crimes in Rahkine has been launched in Myanmar and former UN chief Kofi Annan has been appointed to head a commission tasked with solving divisions between Buddhists and Muslims.
