Attempted army coup in Gambia foiled; three plotters killed

An attempted army coup by Gambian soldiers on Tuesday, 30 December was reportedly foiled by the security forces of the President of Gambia. According to media reports, three coup plotters were killed when they attacked the presidential palace in Banjul. During his address to the media, the Gambian president Yahya Jammeh confirmed that an ex-army commander tried to take control of the country while he was on a trip to France. The critics of the Gambian president accuse him of high-handedness.
