  • Dhaka's Islamist Militants Known to Police

    The Bangladeshi officials said the attackers were known to the police. Though Islamic State (IS) has claimed the attack, but the Bangladeshi government has denied to it. As said by Bangladesh's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, the attackers were from a local militant group and has no connection with the IS. They belong to Jamaeytul Mujahdeen Bangladesh.

    Dhaka café siege: 20 hostages dead, says Bangladesh government

    Bangladesh government has revealed that Islamist militants killed 20 hostages in the Holey Artisan Bakery café siege in Dhaka. The hostages had attacked the café late on Friday. After almost 12 hours, troops cleared the building of militants. A government spokesman said that six attackers were killed while one was arrested in the operation.

    Addressing the media after the Dhaka café attack, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina praised the commandoes. As per media reports, the PM said that the commandoes did a great job. Meanwhile, the government of Japan said that one Japanese hostage has been rescued while seven were unaccounted for in the attack.

    Dhaka siege: Main building cleared; Six gunmen dead

    Bangladeshi troops have cleared the café where gunmen had taken people hostage. According to media reports, six gunmen were killed and 13 hostages were rescued. More than 100 commandoes had launched an attack at the café to rescue the hostages. Commander of the Rapid Action Battalion, Tuhin Mohammad Masud, said that six terrorists were killed and the main building cleared. He further added that the operation was still going on. 

    Troops storm Bangladeshi café; 12 hostages rescued

    Hundreds of Bangladeshi troops have stormed a café in Dhaka where gunmen have taken people hostage. According to media reports, heavy gunfire was heard in the area around the Holey Artisan Bakery café where gunmen had taken around 20 people hostage. Police said that 12 hostages have been rescued. Four of these are foreigners. The fate of the others is not yet known. Many of the hostages who are currently being held are believed to be Italian, while some are Japanese.

    Dhaka attack: Gunmen take hostages

    Gunmen attacked a famous café located in the diplomatic area in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Around eight or nine gunmen are holding several people hostage, including foreigners, in the Holey Artisan Bakery Café in Dhaka’s Gulshan district. The police engaged in a gun battle with the militants. Two police officers were killed in the gun battle while several others were injured. According to media reports, the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.

    Gun battle in Dhaka between police and unidentified attackers; three wounded

    A gun battle is currently going on between the police and unidentified attackers in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Three people, two of whom are police officers, have been wounded in the attack that took place at a café in the Gulshan district. According to media reports, many gunmen entered Holey Artisan Bakery café and started firing. It is not yet known who the attackers are; however, the police believe the gunmen are Islamic militants.
