At least 89 dead in temple stampede

Chaos broke out when hindu worshippers were crossing a bridge in central India to get to a temple and the disaster killed about 89 people including some women and children. Reports suggest that the stampede broke out when there were rumors about the bridge collapsing.
Over 100 people suffering from injuries and are being treated in a hospital.
Police attempted to contain the situation but the worshippers retaliated and seriously injured a police officer.
It's not clear as to how many people were there on the bridge at the time but according to the local media, about 500,000 people had gone to honor goddess Durga at the Ratangarh village temple located in Madhya Pradesh.
Leader of Congress Party Sonia Gandhi said she was shocked and expressed "deep anguish" over the incident.
