Asia's largest gay pride parade hosted in Taiwan

  • Tens of thousands of people marched at Taipei's annual gay pride parade, which is the largest one in Asia.

Over 10 musicals and performances were given during the parade, which attracted about 65,000 people last year. Reports suggest that the number of participants this year was expected to be even more.

"Ten years ago what we asked for was simply to be acknowledged," a college student participant said. "Now we want to challenge the authority for real rights."

This year's theme was 'Make LGBT Visible 2.0' and organizers hoped for the public to take the issue more seriously since there hasn't been substantial amount of improvement in human rights. The organization also looks to increase awareness for those who are disadvantaged and encourages people to collaborate and resist the injustice being done to them.
