Artificial sweeteners may lead to diabetes
September 18 , 2014
Artificial sweeteners, used to deal with the problem of diabetes, may, in fact, raise blood sugar levels, a new research has claimed.
According to the Israeli scientists, artificial sweeteners in diet colas and other items may disrupt the functioning of healthy gut microbes, resulting in higher levels of blood sugar.
The sweeteners may have “directly contributed” to increasing chances of diabetes, the epidemic they were supposed to fight, according to the report in the journal Nature.
However, other scientists have cautioned against treating this study as the final word on the matter.
