Anti-Islam march held in German city
December 16 , 2014
Around 10,000 people marched in eastern Germany’s Dresden city against what they call the "Islamisation of the West".
Another demonstration with around half as many people, to counter the first one, was also held.
The movement called Pegida -- Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West – was born in Dresden.
In a statement, Chancellor Angela Merkel said that while there was freedom of assembly in the country, “there's no place for incitement and lies” about people coming from other countries.
