Anti-China protests in Turkey: Beijing issues travel warning to tourists

  • Beijing has issued a travel warning to Chinese citizens visiting Turkey after some tourists were targeted during anti-Chinese demonstrations in Istanbul.

The protests in Turkey were held over China’s treatment of its Muslim population in Xinjiang province.

The Chinese embassy in Turkey has told Chinese nationals to avoid stepping out alone and be mindful of their safety.

In a diplomatic note sent to China last week, Turkey expressed concern over reports that Xinjiang authorities were preventing Uyghur Muslims from fasting during Ramadan.
