An Earthquake of Magnitude 7.8 Struck Near Alaska Peninsula; Tsunami Warning Issued

  • As per US Geological Survey, an earthquake hits near Alaska peninsula shorty before 6:15 UTC on Wednesday. The powerful 7.8 magnitude quake had a depth of 6 miles (9.6 kilometres) and was centred 60 miles (96 kilometres) south-southeast of Perryville, Alaska. A warning of Tsunami has been issued by US National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration for South Alaska, the Alaska peninsula, and the Aleutian Islands. However, no threat has been issued for other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America. The Pacific Tsunami Center confirms that the warning for South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula is from Kennedy Entrance to Unimak.
