Amidst unprecedented flooding, Mayor imposes curfew in Houston

  • Being the most powerful hurricane to hit the US in 13 years, Hurricane Harvey has caused unprecedented flooding leading to widespread devastation in Texas. Several incidents of looting have been reported in Houston. Sylvester Turner, Houston mayor, announced the immediate imposition of a curfew in the wake of catastrophic flooding. At a press conference, Turner said, “the curfew will come into effect at 10pm and will last till 5am.” Amidst reports of looting the police chief, Art Acevedo said, violators will be stopped, questioned, searched and arrested. At least 18 people have lost their lives and almost one-fifth of the oil refineries have been shut down due to catastrophic floods.
