Algerian Death Toll Rises
January 21 , 2013
A day after the horrific hostage crisis ended in Algeria, officials confirmed that the number of hostages found dead in the Saharan gas-production unit was indeed higher than the 34 initially reported. The death toll climbed well past the 80 mark as both Japan and Philippines found more dead hostages. Also as initially reported not all militants were killed. Five al-Qa'ida terrorists were reportedly found alive as the siege ended and Algerian troops stormed the facility. The terrorists had taken the gas-production unit as a protest against French intervention in neighboring Mali.
