Alcoholics in Amsterdam paid in beer to clean streets
November 21 , 2013
Amsterdam has found a new way to keep its streets clean: A local foundation is paying alcoholics with beer and cigarettes since they were being loud and getting into fights.
Hence, the Rainbow Foundation decided to employ the addicts, who now get two beers in the mornings and begin work at 9 am. They're given a warm meal for lunch as well as two more beers. Their work day ends at 3:30 when they're given a last beer as well as 10 euros.
The government is funding the beers and the money. According to the Foundation, this program is helpful to not only the city but also helps the addicts stay busy and drink less.
