June 6 , 2012
Senior al-Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan on Monday, according to U.S. officials.
Libi was killed in an attack targeting a volatile tribal area of Pakistan's north-west. 15 suspected militants also died.
Pakistani officials, however, have not yet commented on his death.
Following Osama Bin Laden's death last year, Libi, a Libyan Islamic scholar, was believed to have become al-Qaeda's second-in-command after Egyptian-born Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Security analysts said was in charge of day-to-day operations in Pakistan's tribal areas.
