Al Maktoum International Airport, located in Jebel Ali, is expected to be the biggest one in the world upon completion.
Although, it has been three years since cargo flights started operating at the airport, the completion date will only be in 2027.
The airport is expected to hold the flashy city-state Dubai's edge in the market and will cost about $33B to construct.
Its code is Dubai World Central (DWC) and the government hopes big for the airport, which saw its first commercial plane arrive from Bahrain yesterday. DWC is expected to eventually be able to handle about 160 million passengers as well as 12 million tons of cargo every year.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, which is the leading busiest airport in the world, saw 95 million passengers last year.
