Air pollution will claim thousands of lives in Europe: Environment Agency
March 3 , 2015
Hundreds of thousands of people in Europe will die prematurely in the next 20 years as a consequence of governments’ failure to take action against air pollution, the European Environment Agency has warned.
In 2011, over 400,000 people in Europe are believed to have suffered a premature death after breathing toxic fumes, the report by the environment watchdog says.
Europe is also doing poorly on environmental indicators such as biodiversity and inland freshwater systems, it says.
