After brief lull, Israel resumes air strikes on Gaza
July 16 , 2014
After a brief lull the Gaza conflict intensified, with Hamas rejecting an Egyptian ceasefire proposal and firing rockets that killed an Israeli citizen. Israel stepped up its air assault on Gaza.
The death of a civilian at the border crossing of Erez marked the first fatality on the Israeli side since the conflict began. Nearly 200 Palestinians, a majority of them civilians, have been killed in Israeli air strikes.
“Hamas chose to continue the campaign and it will pay for this decision,” Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said.
