Africa's Youngest Billionaire Mohammed Dewji returns Home Safely after Abduction in Tanzania

  • METL Group family conglomerate has said on its Twitter feed that its 43-year-old CEO Mohammed Dewji has “returned home safely” after being abducted in Tanzania off the street outside a luxury hotel a week back. Mohammed Dewji’s net worth is estimated by Forbes to be $1.5 billion, which makes him the youngest billionaire of Africa and seventeenth richest person of the continent. The company statement also quoted him expressing his gratitude towards all (including police) who worked relentlessly for his release. January Yusuf Makamba, Tanzania’s minister of environment, reportedly met Dewji and confirmed that the latter is safe now. Reports say the youngest billionaire of Africa was released after Dewji’s family offered 1 billion Tanzania shillings for information. Mohammed Dewji was reportedly dumped in a field by his abductors during early Saturday morning.
