Afghanistan suspends talks after US-Taliban move
June 20 , 2013
Afghanistan suspended talks with the U.S. aiming at the nature of US military presence following the withdrawal of foreign troops in 2014.
A spokesperson for President Hamid Karzai said the decision was made over "contradictions" over the US proposal of straight talks with the Taliban.
Analysts say that Taliban refused to talk to Karzai and are angry that the US didn’t make this a precondition. A stipulation for the talks was for the Taliban to give up violence.
