Afghanistan: At least 13 people killed as gunmen target vehicles

  • At least 13 people have been killed in a late-night gun attack in eastern Afghanistan.

The unidentified gunmen targeted vehicles on a key road in Wardak province.

Though no one has claimed responsibility for the assault, the Taliban are said to be active in the area.

Afghan forces are grappling with stepped up Taliban attacks, with foreign troops’ combat role coming to an end last year. A smaller number of foreign troops has stayed back to provide support to Afghan military forces.
