Afghan president to fire key leaders in provinces

  • Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani is set to fire the country’s senior military and civilian leaders in provinces most seriously affected by militant attacks, according to media reports.

General Mohammad Zahir, the police chief of Kabul, has already stepped down after a series of militant attacks in the capital, one of which targeted a British convoy.

Governors and generals will be removed in at least five provinces that are strongholds of the Taliban, media reports said.
