About 400 migrants drown near Libyan coast

An estimated 400 migrants drowned when their boat capsized near the Libyan coast, according to survivor accounts. Italian coast guard has launched an operation to search for more survivors. Many of those who perished may have been minors, the charity Save the Children believes.The tragedy occurred as an increasing number of African migrants made desperate attempts to reach Europe from the Mediterranean. Since Friday, over 7,000 people have been rescued by Italy.Last year, around 3,400 migrants died while making the sea journey to Europe.
