Abbott seeks indigenous referendum in 2017
December 12 , 2014
Australia’s prime minister Tony Abbott has said he wants a key referendum to get constitutional recognition for the country's indigenous people in 2017.
He, however, said he would avoid rushing through with the process till he felt confident that the referendum would be successful.
For it to be passed, the referendum needs the backing of a majority of people in six states of the country. Abbott said he would “sweat blood” on the issue.
