Notorious militant group Boko Haram has released 82 schoolgirls, who they abducted in north-eastern Nigeria three years back.
An official statement has said that the abducted girls were released after prolonged negotiations.
The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is said to be receiving the freed girls, who are currently in custody of Nigerian army.
Reports say that the rescued girls belong to the 276 "Chibok girls" abduction, which created huge outcry across the globe after massive social media campaign.
The campaign gained momentum after erstwhile US First Lady Michelle Obama along with many celebrities supported the campaign for returning the girls.
President Buhari’s spokesperson expressed gratefulness to security agencies, the military, Swiss government, Red Cross, and NGOs who played active role in rescuing the girls.
Many families in Chibok have already started rejoicing as news of 82 school girls' release reached them.
