January 16 , 2013
More than 80 people were killed in two blasts in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday.
The explosions took place in an area between the University of Aleppo's halls of residence and the architecture faculty on the first day of exams. In addition to the 83 casualities, around 160 people were injured.
According to state TV, "terrorists" had launched rockets at the campus. However, activists blamed the incident on missiles fired by warplanes.
The Local Co-ordination Committees, an opposition activist network, has posted an online video appearing to show warplanes bombing the campus.
According to the United Nations, more than 60,000 people have been killed since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.
