72-hour ceasefire begins in Gaza
August 5 , 2014
Another ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has come into effect, with Israel saying its military had finished destroying tunnels and withdrawn troops.
As the 72-hour ceasefire comes into force, Israeli and Palestinian delegations are likely to hold talks in Cairo.
The Israeli army announced that dozens of underground passages had been blown up. Mark Regev, the Israeli government spokesperson, said Israel will “cease all military operations against terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip.”
The United States has urged both Israel and Hamas to respect the ceasefire.
