December 18 , 2014
Fifty-four Nigerian soldiers have been sentenced to death for their refusal to fight Islamist militants of the Boko Haram.
The soldiers, found guilty of mutiny by a court in Nigeria, had been accused of refusing to participate in the fight to retake three towns seized by the militant group in August.
Reports said that the 54 guilty soldiers will face a firing squad. Five soldiers were acquitted.
The court martial was held behind closed doors.
