4.4B-year-old crystals found on Earth

  • When scientists found tiny crystals in Australia, which they said were 4.4B years old, there was a lot of skepticism considering that the planet itself is 4.5B years old.

"Nothing in science goes without being questioned," geochemist John Valley said. However, his team has now been able to prove that the age of those crystals was correct. Researchers determined it by investigating the amount of uranium in them that had been turned into lead.

The findings indicate that life on Earth existed during that time period and "there is no reason" to believe that it didn't.
