4 New Cases of Pneumonia Caused by the Mysterious Virus Reported in China, Scientists say 1,723 Persons Affected Till Now

  • The Chinese health authorities have said that they have discovered 4 new cases of pneumonia, caused by a mystery SARS-like virus (a new coronavirus strain) that has already killed 2 persons in China. The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said in a statement that the four individuals diagnosed with the pneumonia are in stable condition. A scientific paper published by the scientists (including one who advises WHO) of MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College in London said that as of January 12, a total of 1,723 persons have been infected by the virus in Wuhan. The paper also pointed out that the virus has still now infected 2 persons in Thailand and 1 person in Japan. Reports say that over a hundred professional staffers from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been deployed in 3 US airports (New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, and San Francisco International Airport) to screen passengers coming from China’s Wuhan.
