38 Cuban migrants stuck for weeks on US ship sent back

  • Dozens of Cuban migrants who were stuck on a US ship for weeks because of a legal problem have finally been sent back to Cuba, the US coast guard said.

The 38 migrants had been detained in April, but could not be repatriated quickly because Cuba was reluctant to accept them back since they had left legally and had tourist visas from a third country.

They were held on board a coast guard ship till a solution was found.

Following a thaw in their relations, Cuba and the US are trying to seal an agreement to re-establish embassies in each other’s capital cities.
