37 killed as lone gunman goes on a suicidal shooting spree in Manila resort Philippines

  • After initially suspecting an IS-led terror attack, security forces said they believed it was the act of a lone gunman though the reasons behind is act were still under investigation.

    As per reports, on the night of 1 June, a lone gunman, said to be a long-term guest of the Resorts World Manila in Philippines, walked into the hotel casino with an assault rifle and a bottle of gasoline and began shooting at random. 37 people lay dead, including 22 guests and 13 employees, before the assailant burnt himself to death. The reason for the attack is still unclear.

    Eyewitnesses recounted hearing sounds of gunfire and explosions as smoke took over the casino. Most guests ran out in panic while some hid themselves in the locker rooms. The full extent of loss of life and damage to property was visible next morning.
