33 killed in stampede in India's Bihar state
October 4 , 2014
A stampede during a religious festival in the north Indian state of Bihar killed at least 33 people, including many women and children.
The stampede in state capital Patna occurred in Gandhi Maidan during celebrations for Dussehra, a Hindu festival.
It was not immediately clear what led to the stampede, with some reports indicating that a rumor about a live electrical wire having fallen down may have triggered it. A narrow road near the exit made things worse, other reports said.
More than 24 people were injured in the incident.
