33 killed, 100 injured in suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan

  • A deadly suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan’s eastern Jalalabad city has killed at least 33 people and injured around 100.

The bomber targeted a bank when military officials and government employees were collecting salaries, the police said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far. A Taliban spokesperson said it was not behind the attack.

President Ashraf Ghani described it as a “cowardly and heinous” act.

Questions have repeatedly been raised about the capability and readiness of Afghan forces to combat the threat of militancy after Nato troops ended their combat role in December.
