Reports say that 3 senior members of Saudi Arabia's royal family have been detained by the Saudi government on Friday for unexplained reasons. The Wall Street Journal newspaper broke the news of the detention of 78-year old Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz (the younger brother of the King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud), Prince Mohammed bin Nayef (former crown prince), and Prince Nawaf bin Nayef (a royal cousin). Reports say that the recent detentions are part of the 34-year old de facto ruler of the kingdom and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s tightening grip on power. Both Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Nayef are reportedly seen as the potential rivals of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Reports say that the detentions were made on Friday after the guards wearing masks and back attire arrived at the royals’ homes and searched their properties.
