With the battle for Mosul raging on, supporters of ISIL are getting desperate and striking back at other locations and these attacks are likely to intensify further. The Iraqi Army was confident of capturing Mosul in a short but incisive battle but ISIL seems to have dug in for a longer war of attrition.
After initial gains, the Iraqi forces have got bogged down and are struggling to fight through the fog. This is turning out to be a longer battle than planned.
