260 African migrants die while trying to escape to Europe

At least 260 African migrants are believed to have died in the Mediterranean sea over the weekend as increasing numbers of people from North Africa make desperate attempts to cross over to Europe.
An overcrowded vessel capsized near Libya, killing more than 250 people. In another incident, the Italian navy recovered the bodies of 18 men and rescued 73 survivors from a boat.
The Italian navy said in a Twitter message that over 3,500 people were brought to the shore in the past 2-3 days.
