26 dead in Kiev
February 20 , 2014
More than 26 people died and hundreds of others are injured in the violence in Ukraine. The country's health ministry mentioned that the dead include a journalist and 10 police officers.
The violence began when anti-government protestors clashed with security forces. The BBC reported that riot police attempted to clear a central Kiev square and succeeded in gaining control of a corner of the square.
A correspondent referred to the area as being a "battle zone" and said there's no "sign these clashes will die down" at 6 am.
