24 arrested in raids on media in Turkey
December 15 , 2014
Police in Turkey have arrested at least 24 people during raids on a newspaper and TV station, a move that has prompted criticism from the European Union.
Zaman newspaper and Samanyolu news channel were said to have close links with the US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen.
Once an ally of Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Gulen has been accused by the government of trying to run a “parallel state” in the country.
Ekrem Dumanli, the editor-in-chief of Zaman, was among those arrested.
