22 people killed in a fire at a religious school in Kuala Lumpur

Early Thursday, at least twenty two people lost their lives in a fire which broke out at a religious school in Jalan Datul Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia. A fire broke out in the two-storey building of Dara Quran Ittifaqiyah School in Kuala Lumpur before dawn. As per the City Fire and Rescue Department, they received the information about the blaze at around 5am. According to Khirudin Drahman, the Director of Fire and Rescue Department, twenty three students and two adult wardens were killed, either trapped by fire or due to smoke inhalation. In the light of this, Malaysian authorities have raised concerns about safety measures at unregulated private religious schools.
