At least 22 people were killed when gunmen belonging to an Islamist group attacked a trading center and police station near a popular tourist destination in coastal Kenya, officials said.
These were among several attacks in recent weeks in which a total of more than 45 people have died.
The Al-Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for the killings. “Our fighters returned to their base unharmed after the attacks,” the group’s spokesperson Sheikh Abu Musab was quoted as saying.
