21 Killed, 70 Injured in Coal Mine Explosion in Iran

  • As per reports, several miners lost their lives trying to save trapped fellow miners in an explosion that occurred deep underground in the Zemestan-Yurt coal mine near Azadshahr of Golestan province of North Iran

    Although the exact number of miners trapped underground was unclear, efforts at rescuing them was hampered by news of gas spreading in the tunnels collapsed tunnels below. It is estimated at least 32 miners still remained trapped. Emergency rescue teams were at work. Though no official reason for the explosion has been released as yet there was speculation that the explosion was triggered by leaking gas. 

    The explosion comes at a sensitive time as the Presidential election is just around the corner and may have an impact on the results.
