At least 17 people were killed in a blast on Monday afternoon at a fireworks factory in southern India’s Andhra Pradesh state, media reports said.
The fire at Manikanta Fireworks in East Godavari district’s Vakatippa village destroyed the factory. Many workers suffered severe burn injuries.
The police have said that the required permits for workers making firecrackers may not have been issued by the factory.
In 2012, a similar accident in India's Tamil Nadu state killed 34 people.
