September 9 , 2014
A suicide bomber targeted a convoy of the African Union Mission in Somalia on Monday, September 8, killing 16 people, the government has said.
Two buses trailing a military convoy were destroyed in the blast. The convoy was carrying Adukadir Mohamed Sidi, governor of Lower Shabelle.
At least 22 people were injured in the attack, reports said.
The Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which comes a week after an American airstrike killed Ahmed Godane, the leader of the Somali Islamist group.
