12 Nigerian soldiers sentenced to death

  • A military tribunal in Nigeria has sentenced 12 soldiers to death for mutiny and attempt to murder.

According to witnesses, shots were fired at the Seventh Division’s commanding officer in May. The soldiers were reportedly angry after a convoy was attacked in an area, and fired at General Amadu Mohammed, who had to take cover, reports said.

The sentences need to be confirmed by the top brass of the army, but the seriousness of the offence was not in doubt, Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, the head of the tribunal, said.
