Suspect extradited to Italy for people smuggling is wrong man, claim friends
June 9 , 2016
An Eritrean man has been extradited to Italy on charges of people smuggling; however, the man’s friends claim that the police have the wrong man. Prosecutors believe that Mered Medhanie was involved in an operation to smuggle migrants from Africa to Europe. He was detained in Sudan in May and was on Tuesday flown to Rome, Italy. But the man’s friends say that Medhanie is innocent and it is a case of mistaken identity.
