YouTube set to launch video gaming site and apps

  • YouTube is launching a video gaming site and app specially built for gamers to take on Twitch, the streaming service owned by Amazon.

YouTube owner Google is believed to have made a bid for Twitch in 2014, but eventually, Amazon bought the service for $970 million.

Alan Joyce, the Gaming product manager of YouTube, said on a blog post that gaming had spawned “new genres of videos” on YouTube, and it was now time to “return the favor” and build a dedicated site for gamers.
