Yelp reviews used to control food poisoning

New businesses are scared of Yelp since they can easily get crippled by one negative review on the website. The New York City Health Department is using this to their advantage by teaming up with Columbia University and posting about 300k reviews of the restaurants in the city.
The huge initial pool allowed researchers to pull those that showed signs of foodborne illness and two businesses of the selected 27 were found to be violating the heath code.
"By incorporating website review data into public health surveillance programs, health departments might find additional illnesses and improve detection of foodborne disease outbreaks in the community," a report published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reads.
