World's most expensive medicine goes on sale

  • The first gene therapy medicine in the west will go on sale with a price tag of $1.4 million, making it the world’s most expensive drug, according to media reports.

The drug, Glybera, which is used to treat a very rare disease, is going on sale in Germany.

It is a product of Dutch firm UniQure and battles lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD), a rare disease that clogs the blood. It was approved two years ago, but the launch was delayed.
