Virginia high school students build satellite
November 21 , 2013
One of the 29 satellites that blasted into space yesterday has made headlines for special reasons: it's the first time that high school students built a satellite.
Teenagers at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology built it with the help of their TJ3Sat device. The best part about their satellite is that it is capable of receiving text messages, which become audio for broadcasting.
A NASA official said the main mission of this satellite is educational. "I think we might be seeing kids saying, what they want to do is build a spacecraft. The idea here is that they really can do that."
