Venture capitalists back gay 'hook-up' app in China
November 5 , 2014
Venture capitalists have reportedly invested $30 million in an app used by Chinese gay men to hook up.
Blued, which was created in 2012, says it has 15 million users, mainly based in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, according to media reports.
Until 2001, homosexuality was deemed a mental disorder in China. Before 1997, it was illegal.
Hook-up and dating apps are used openly by straight men and women, but the gay scene tends to be much more reserved, reports say.
