US: Founder of 'Silk Road' Internet Marketplace convicted of drugs charges
February 5 , 2015
Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the deep web marketplace 'Silk Road' where illicit drugs were traded, has been found guilty of several charges by a Manhattan jury.
According to US prosecutors, over a million drug deals were carried out on Silk Road, which helped the 30-year-old Ulbricht earn some $18 million in Bitcoins.
The jury convicted him on seven counts, which included drugs and money laundering charges.
United States attorney Preet Bharara warned that the dark web’s “supposed anonymity” was not a “protective shield” from being arrested and prosecuted.
